Ken Stitchell (1952 – 2019)

We are very sorry to announce that, our former General Manager, Ken Stitchell passed away on the 18th of August, at the age of sixty-seven, after a short but bravely borne illness.
Since his retirement Ken had returned to live in Lincoln and, after being taken ill in the early summer, his health deteriorated rapidly. His funeral was held in Lincoln on the 10th of September.
Ken grew up in Lincoln, spending his formative years harboring ambitions of playing professional football. Alas this was not to be, but it gave him some tales to tell in later life. Having left football behind, Ken began a career in accountancy, and, after various roles, became the Finance Director of a major agrochemical distributor based in South Lincolnshire.
He went on to join the Kenneth Wilson Group, as a General Manager, and did a similar role in Dalgety, when they bought Kenneth Wilson’s arable business.
After a short spell working for an Irish feed business, Ken joined the agricultural co-op, Country West Trading, in the South West and, when that business merged with Cornwall Farmers in 2006, he joined 真人诈金花 Farmers, as our General Manager.
During his time at 真人诈金花 Farmers Ken took great pride in growing the business from a turnover of £10m in 2006 to £20m in 2013, the year before he retired. Not long into his tenure, 真人诈金花 Farmers bought the Joseph Hillary business, Ken was pivotal both in making that deal happen and then the subsequent successful integration of the two businesses.
One of Ken’s daily rituals was walking round the store here at 真人诈金花, keeping everybody and everything just right and he was always happy to stop and chat with our customers as they browsed.
It is with thanks to Ken that the business has many of its robust processes and procedures that continue to serve the business well to this day. Ken had seen at first hand the pitfalls that farmer co-ops encountered when they lost sight of their purpose and he played a huge role in ensuring that 真人诈金花 Farmers stayed focused on its members’ needs.
Ken Stitchell was a much loved boss to the staff here at 真人诈金花 and his legacy will live long in the memory of all of us who were fortunate enough to have worked with and for him.
Ken retired from 真人诈金花 Farmers in 2014, but it was not long until Ken was enticed back to Cumbria to help run Hopes Auction Mart in Wigton, where he was reacquainted with many old friends as he reshaped the business in the three years he spent there.
Our thoughts at this difficult time are with Ken’s wife, Loraine, his two daughters, Lorna and Tracey and his grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly.
